Sangareddy: A fire broke out in the Chief Planning Officer’s office on Monday at a time when the Collectorate was seeing a huge turnout of people to submit their grievances.

A couple of computers and a huge number of important files were gutted in the incident. However, the staff responded quickly and extinguished the fire before it spread to other parts of the collectorate. No casualties were reported. The incident created tension among the collectorate staff.

It would have led to a massive fire accident if it had happened during the night, the frantic collectorate staff were seen discussing. Collector Valluru Kranthi visited the department and enquired about the cause of the incident. When they said a short-circuit was the reason for the fire accident, Kranthi ordered the Transco and fire department officials to carry out a collective inquiry to find out the exact reason.

She said they would soon assess the damage due to the fire accident and would initiate action accordingly. The Collector directed the fire department officials to review the fire safety in all the departments to ensure such incidents were not repeated.
