Karimnagar: A fire broke out in the dumping yard of Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) here on Monday. Smoke that started at the dumping yard in the morning, turned into strong flames by noon. Officials suspect that the fire occurred due to scorching temperature.
People staying in the surrounding areas faced difficulties as flames engulfed the dumping yard located in the bypass road. It has become a routine problem every summer.
Besides fire service department officials, Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar staff and Disaster Response Force personnel rushed to the spot and took steps to douse the fire by deploying fire engines and water tankers.
Municipal Commissioner Valluru Kranthi also rushed to the spot and monitored the situation. The Commissioner instructed engineering and sanitation staff to take steps to prevent fire mishaps in the dumping yard.
Speaking on the occasion, Kranthi admitted that fire mishaps during summer season had become a problem for locals and efforts were under way to find a permanent solution. Accordingly, a bio-mining plant was proposed under Smart City programme and tender process was initiated. The works would be started soon, she informed.
