The fire control room was reinforced with more personnel to immediately attend distress calls and rush the fire tenders to the spot. “As part of preparedness, fire tenders were stationed at different places in the city to be able to rush to the spot in case of the distress call. In all, 30 fire incidents mostly small in nature, were reported in the city on Saturday night,” said a senior fire official.

Of the complaints received, 15 incidents pertained to garbage dumps/bins catching fire due to fire crackers bursting. “To prevent the spread of the fire, small vehicles were dispatched to the spot and immediately the fire was doused,” said the official.

The other mishaps reported were at small shops, godowns and plastic segregation unit. At Habeebnagar a fire broke out a plastic segregation unit on Saturday night causing panic among the residents. On being alerted by Habeebnagar police, a fire tender stationed at Gudimalkapur immediately rushed to the spot and doused the flames. Another mishap was reported from Karwan area when fire broke out on the first floor of a building. The occupants had rushed out of the premises.

“Our personnel will remain vigilant for such mishaps for the next two days as fire crackers especially rockets fall on the buildings and in open compounds when ignited,” said the official.
