First H1N1 case detected in Moradabad, special ward reserved

Moradabad (UP): The health department has stepped up vigilance in Moradabad after the district reported its first case of H1N1, with a 42-year-old woman testing positive, officials said on Thursday. The woman had recently returned from Ghaziabad and developed high fever, sore throat and body ache, Chief Medical Officer Dr Kuldeep Singh said.

She was admitted to the private Asian Vivekanand Hospital, where her condition is currently stable and under control, doctors said. As a precautionary measure, a 10-bed special ward for H1N1 patients has been reserved at the district hospital.

All community health centres in the district have also been directed to reserve at least five beds each for such patients, officials said. An adequate stock of drugs used in treating H1N1 has also been kept at the district hospital, Singh said.

The CMO advised health department staff to wear masks mandatorily and appealed to residents to consult a doctor and undergo testing if they develop high fever, sore throat or body ache. “It is natural for people to be apprehensive after the detection, but there is no need to panic. People should not pay attention to rumours,” Singh said.
