Khammam: An ultra modern cardiac catheterisation laboratory (Cath Lab) established recently at Government District Headquarters Hospital in Khammam has been yielding results offering corporate level treatment to the patients. A first cardiac surgery was performed successfully on a heart patient a few days ago. It was said that a 60 year old patient G Sudhakar of Mustafa Nagar in Khammam admitted to the hospital on Feb 25 with chest pain.
Cardiologist Dr. Seetharam who performed coronary angiogram found that the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) had a 90 percent stenosis. Hence the patient was required placement of a stent to keep the blocked passageway in the artery open. Stenting was performed after registering the patient under Aarogyasri and Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. All medicines have been provided to the patient free of cost, informed District Collector VP Gautham here on Wednesday.
The patient Sudhakar was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday and his health condition was stable. If the same surgery was performed in any private hospital it might have cost the patient around Rs 3 lakh, the Collector said. Gautham appreciated Dr. Seetharam and Dr Suresh and the hospital superintendent Dr. B Venkateshwarlu for performing stenting successfully. He thanked Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar and ZP Chairman L Kamal Raj for their efforts in setting up the cath lab at the District Hospital.
It might be noted that the Cath Lab was set up with an expenditure of Rs 20 crore at the District Hospital’s emergency wing along with an emergency care centre and trauma care centre. Health and Finance Minister T Harish Rao inaugurated the facility on Jan 28.
