Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police nabbed five members of a nine member gang who posed as Income Tax officials and decamped with 1.276 kilograms of gold from a house at Gachibowli earlier this week.

The arrested persons were Y Aravind (27), N Murali Sridhar (27), P Venkat Rao (28), Somani Sandeep (22) and P Mohan (24). Three suspects are absconding.

According to the police, on December 13, four of the suspects went to the house C Bhagyalaxmi at Jayabheri Orange County in Nanakramguda and introduced themselves as IT department officials and showed identity cards.

“The gang members made Bhagyalaxmi, her three children and driver sit in the hall of the house, and opened the almirah and took away gold ornaments weighing around 1.34 kilograms along with Rs.2 lakh,” Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Stephen Raveendra said.

Police said Aravind, Soman Sandeep and Mohan were friends and got acquainted with one Jashwanth, who worked with a real estate company owned by the victim Bhagyalaxmi’s husband Subramanyam.

“Jashwanth told them about huge financial transactions and provided the address. After conducting a reece, the gang posed as IT officials and carried out the offence,” police said, adding that they had made fake identity cards and affixed fake number plates to the car they used for the crime. A few of the gang members had come from Andhra Pradesh and stayed at a lodge in Manikonda.

The Special Operations Team (Madhapur) caught five members of the gang. Efforts are on to nab the absconding persons.
