Hyderabad: Family members and friends of 55-year-old Sathaiah Korrapidatha, a resident from Jajireddy Gudem, Nalgonda, who was declared brain dead by attending neuro-physicians, have donated the organs of the deceased under State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
On Saturday, November 20, Sathaiah was found unconscious at his residence and was immediately rushed to Yashoda Hospital, Malakpet by his relatives. The doctors at Yashoda Hospital treated him at the ICU and after 72 hours of intensive treatment, with no improvement in health status, declared Sathaiah as brain dead due to brain haemorrhage at 10.16 am on Tuesday, November 23.
Later, the Jeevandan coordinator from the hospital grief counselled the family members of the deceased including his K Laxmamma and son K Venkanna, who agreed to donate his organs. Surgeons retrieved two kidneys, liver and lungs (in all five) and distributed them to other transplant centres based on the organ donation guidelines under Jeevandan.
The two donor lungs were transported from Yashoda, Malakpet to KIMS, Secunderabad within 12 minutes, thanks to a green channel that was created by traffic and police authorities.
