Five test Omicron positive, caseload rises to 84 in Telangana

Hyderabad: Five more international passengers who had arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad have tested positive for Omicron variant on Sunday, taking the overall number of positive Omicron cases to 84 in Telangana.
All the five Omicron positive international passengers were from non-at-risk countries, Director of Public Health (DPH), Dr G Srinivasa Rao, said on Sunday. A total of 5 Omicron positive patients have also recovered on Sunday, which has taken the overall number of recovered patients to 32.
Overall, 45 international travelers from non-at-risk countries, 8 travelers from at-risk countries and 4 close contacts of international passengers have tested positive for Omicron while 32 travelers have recovered and have been discharged from TIMS, Gachibowli.
On Sunday, a total of 163 travelers had arrived at RGIA, Shamshabad out of which 14 have tested Covid positive and their blood samples have been sent for full genome sequencing to ascertain their Omicron status. Genome sequencing results of 30 blood samples of Covid positive international travelers are awaited.
So far, 12, 855 international passengers have undergone RT-PCR tests at RGIA Shamshabad out of which 158 have tested Covid positive, out of which 84 were Omicron positive.
