Five workers injured after molten iron spill at Vizag steel plant
Five workers of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited were seriously injured in Visakhapatnam after molten iron at around 1,600°C spilled during crane handling operations. Authorities are investigating the accident and assessing safety lapses at the facility
Visakhapatnam: Five workers of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (Vizag Steel Plant) were seriously injured here after molten iron spilt on workers, police said on Monday. Visakhapatnam police commissioner Shankabrata Baghchi said he was on his way to the spot to assess the situation.
“As per preliminary information, it seems that five people were severely injured in the accident,” Baghchi told PTI. According to the police, molten iron spilt while being moved in a bucket by a crane. Police said the molten iron was extremely hot at about 1,600 degrees Celsius.
