Fog computing has great potential: Karnataka NIT Professor

Warangal Urban: Dr Asoke K Talukder, Professor of CSE, NITK, Surathkal, said Fog Computing enables users to access services and objects without depending on the Internet.

Addressing the participants at the inaugural session of AICTE sponsored Short Term Training Program (STTP) Phase-2 on ‘IoT simulation by Fog Computing and Edge Computing using Open-source Tools’ being held by the Kakatiya Institute of Technology and Science (KITS), Warangal, on Monday, he said, “The main objectives of the programme are to provide the advanced training to the professors, academicians and researchers in advanced IoT based networks including Fog Computing, Edge Computing, IoT and Mist Computing and to impart a higher degree of accuracy in the research tools and technologies so that they are able to implement the network scenarios with the integrity-based environment and also to integrate the advance networks in research and development activities in the higher education with masters, doctorate levels,” he added.


He concluded that all these would lead to future digitisation with latest technologies by operating in an easy way.

KITSW Principal Prof K Ashoka Reddy said that the CSE department of the institute was organising the STTP from March 22 to 27. “The contents of this programme include the introduction to IoT and Cloud computing concepts,  IoT architecture and Core IoT Modules, Understand use of Arduino & RaspberryPi in IoT, Cloud-Based IoT & IoT Communication Protocols (HTTP, UPnP, CoAP, MQTT, XMPP),  Future Opportunistic Fog/Edge Computational Models and their Limitations & Research directions in IoT, Fog and Edge Computing,  IoT and Edge security, IoT Use Cases. Industrial IoT (IIoT) Case Study,” he said adding that the 120 participants are from NIT Raipur, NIT Warangal and other esteemed colleges.

Prof V Shankar, Head CSE, KITSW, Prof P Niranjan Reddy, Co-ordinator, KITSW,  Dr V Chandrashekhar Rao, Co-Coordinator, organising members B Hanmanthu, Syed Abdul Moeed, D Naveen Kumar, Dr K Srinivas, NC Santosh, and Associate Professor of Chemistry and PRO Dr Prabhakara Chary were present.
