Sangareddy: An expert team engaged by the Forest Department captured 22 langurs in Zaheerabad town over the past two days after the animals went on a biting spree, leaving several citizens grievously injured.
Following complaints from residents to forest and municipal officials, District Forest Officer (DFO) Ch Sridhar Rao said a specialised langur-capturing team from Nellore was brought in after consultations with trappers across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The four-member team began operations on Thursday and has so far captured 22 langurs, which were released deep inside the forest. However, four baby langurs are still at large in the town, and efforts are on to trap them.
The DFO clarified that only two langurs had turned abnormally ferocious and were responsible for most attacks in residential areas. Both were successfully captured.
Relieved residents expressed gratitude to the Forest Department for addressing the menace.
