Hyderabad: Former MP B Vinod Kumar demanded the Congress government to spell out its stance on establishment and maintenance of Sainik Schools in Telangana.
He also urged the Telangana Education Commission to explore the feasibility of setting up not one, but two Sainik Schools – one in northern Telangana and another in southern Telangana, to ensure equitable access for students to these institutions.
In a letter to the Commissioner chairman Akunuri Murali, Vinod Kumar stated that the previous BRS government pursued the assurances by the Centre to establish a Sainik School in Telangana.
Though the Defence Ministry allocated one Sainik School to Telangana, the Centre made it clear that the responsibility of land pooling, infrastructure development and recurring expenses would lie completely with the State government. However, there has been no further communication thereafter.
In the wake of Revanth Reddy‘s recent meeting with union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and a request to sanction the Sainik School, the former MP urged the State government to clarify whether it was ready to bear all expenses related to establishment of a Sainik School in the State as suggested by the union government or is planning to explore ways to secure grants from he Defence Ministry for the infrastructure, maintenance and recurring expenditure of these schools.
He pointed out that the Sainik School board gave notification for admissions from Classs-IV to XII across the country. He urged the Centre to either prioritise the matter or give an update on its current status.
