Former Choppadandi MLA demands water through Kakatiya canal

Former Choppadandi MLA Sunke Ravishankar, along with farmers, staged a protest in Karimnagar alleging that the Congress government was neglecting the SRSP rejuvenation scheme. He demanded immediate completion of the project and water supply through link canals.

Karimnagar: Former Choppadandi MLA Sunke Ravishankar alleged that the Congress government was neglecting the SRSP rejuvenation scheme. He along with farmers staged a protest at a link canal of the scheme at Ryalapalli village in Gangadhara mandal on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ravishankar demanded that the government save agricultural fields by providing water through the link canal and flood canal by completing SRSP rejuvenation scheme and lifting water from Gayathri and Kannepalli pump houses without having to depend on Medigadda barrage, a part of Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project. He accused the government of showing negligence in tapping the potential of the scheme.

The former MLA opined that the agricultural fields in Choppadandi, Dharmapuri, Karimnagar, Peddapalli and Mathani Assembly segments could be irrigated through Kakatiya distributaries by improving the link canal which was constructed by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao spending Rs 30 crore. The canal would reduce the burden on SRSP, he maintained.

He regretted that farmers were depressed after failing to irrigate their lands through the lift irrigation projects. He declared that they would intensify the agitation against the government if their demand was not addressed.
