Former Dibai MLA Shribhagwan Sharma accused of assaulting wife in purported video

A video purportedly showing former two-time Dibai MLA Shribhagwan Sharma allegedly assaulting his wife, Congress leader Archana Panda, surfaced in Bulandshahr. Panda alleged Sharma pushed and dragged her, while Sharma claimed the video was old and part of a defamation conspiracy

Bulandshahr (UP): A video surfaced on Friday purportedly showing former two-time Dibai MLA Shribhagwan Sharma allegedly assaulting his wife, a local Congress leader. In the video, Sharma alias Guddu Pandit is seen pulling his wife’s hair and dragging her on the floor. She is heard shouting and hitting him with a broom, after which he appears to drag her before she leaves the house.

Archana Panda alleged that she was at home with her son when Pandit arrived. After she opened the door, he misbehaved and pushed her down, she said, adding that a domestic worker who heard the commotion reached the spot and recorded the incident.

Sharma, however, said through social media that the video was old and alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to defame him. Sharma, who represented the Dibai assembly constituency twice, was elected as an MLA in 2007 on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket and in 2012 on a Samajwadi Party (SP) ticket.
