Former India handball player and SAI coach G Chenna Reddy passes away at 79

Veteran handball coach G Chenna Reddy, who served with the Sports Authority of India and represented India at the 1982 Asian Games, passed away in Hyderabad at the age of 79. The sporting fraternity expressed condolences to his family

Hyderabad: G Chenna Reddy, a well-known handball coach with the Sports Authority of India and mentor to generations of athletes, passed away here on Monday. He was 79 and is survived by his son and two daughters.

Chenna Reddy was also a proud member of the Indian handball team that took part in the 1982 Asian Games.


He served as a senior handball coach with the SAI and was associated with the Indian teams over the years in different capacities. He was also a member of the Indian Handball Team that participated in the 1982 Asian Games held in New Delhi. His achievements as a player brought great pride to the nation and inspired countless young athletes.

The sporting fraternity, especially the handball fraternity, mourned his demise and expressed condolences to the bereaved family members.
