Former Khanapur MLA Ajmeer Govind Naik passed away at Lingapur village in Dandepalli mandal of Mancherial district due to age-related issues. The 88-year-old leader had represented Khanapur constituency three times and played a role in the movement for a separate Telangana State.

Mancherial: Former Khanapur MLA and senior politician Ajmeer Govind Naik passed away due to age-related issues at Lingapur village in Dandepalli mandal on Monday. He was 88. He is survived by his wife and three sons.
Govind Naik, who hailed from the Lambada community, won from Khanapur Assembly constituency for the first time as an independent candidate in 1985. He then won in 1994 after being in the fray on a Telugu Desam Party ticket. He again won on a BRS ticket in 2004. He played a vital role in the movement for a separate Telangana State.
Naik was one of the 16 legislators who resigned from their posts demanding a separate State by bifurcating the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. He was defeated by Suman Ramesh Rathod of the TDP in the by-elections to the constituency in 2008. He quit politics and had been leading a retired life in Dandepalli mandal for over 15 years.
