Former MLA Sunitha questions donations sought for Yadadri temple development works
Former BRS MLA Gongidi Sunitha questioned donations being sought for development works at Yadadri temple, alleging that several projects had already been sanctioned or promised. She accused the Congress government of failing to allocate funds and demanded action against the temple EO.
Hyderabad: Former BRS MLA Gongidi Sunitha alleged that the Congress government was lowering the prestige of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple at Yadadri by seeking donations for development works. She raised concern over the government’s failure to allocate funds for works for which Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had laid foundation stones.
She recalled that the previous BRS government under K Chandrashekhar Rao spent around Rs 1,300 crore on the temple’s redevelopment and had sought donations only for gold plating after its completion.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, Sunitha questioned the need for a recent pamphlet issued by the temple executive officer seeking donations for 16 works, several of which had already been sanctioned, constructed or promised under the previous government. She cited the Rs 43-crore Veda Pathashala and other facilities, including the Kalyana Katta, dining hall, kitchen and goshala, and questioned why donations were being sought for such works.
The former BRS MLA demanded action against EO Bhavani Shankar, stating that the pamphlet hurt devotees’ sentiments and was an insult to the temple board. She alleged that temple funds were being used by the Congress government for beauty pageants, while donations were being sought for development works. Alleging irregularities in the name of donations, she demanded that Revanth Reddy answer the allegations. She declared that the BRS would pursue the issue, including approaching the Human Rights Commission if necessary.
