Former sarpanches demand clearing of pending bills before Telangana local body polls

Hyderabad: Former sarpanches have once again urged the State government to clear their long-pending bills, stating that many of them are facing a severe financial crisis. They also demanded that local body elections be conducted only after the government settles the outstanding dues.
Under the aegis of the Telangana Sarpanch Sangham Joint Action Committee (JAC), the former village heads have made repeated appeals to the government, urging it to resolve the issue. Despite holding peaceful protests in line with Gandhian principles, they allege that their concerns continue to be ignored by the administration.
As a symbolic act of protest, a written representation was tied to the gate of the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Commissioner’s office at Khairatabad on Saturday, said JAC president Yadaiah Goud.
“Over the past 18 months, former sarpanches have been running from pillar to post, submitting several representations to Ministers. But the government remains unmoved,” Goud said.
