Mancherial: Former Telangana State Human Rights Commission chairman Justice Chandraiah passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad on Thursday. He was 72.
Chandraiah had been diagnosed with a respiratory-related ailment. His final rites will be performed at Maha Prasthanam in Hyderabad on Sunday. Hailing from remote Thimmapur in Jannaram mandal, Chandraiah was born into a financially poor family in 1954. He studied in Thimmapur before pursuing LLB and LLM from Osmania University.
Beginning his legal practice in 1980, Chandraiah went on to serve as a judge in various district courts. He was the first chairman of the Telangana Legal Services Authority. He was elevated as a judge of the High Court in 2016. Following his retirement in 2019, he was appointed as THRC chairman. His friends and colleagues expressed deep grief and extended condolences to his bereaved family.
