Hyderabad: The State government will encourage small and marginal dairy farmers in Telangana through State-owned Vijaya Dairy, said Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav. Vijaya Dairy, which was making losses before the State formation, has been transformed into a profit-making company with a turnover of Rs 750 crore. It has increased milk procurement from one lakh litres per day to 4.5 lakh litres per day throughout the year.

Srinivas Yadav along with Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy laid the foundation stone for the mega dairy project of Vijaya Dairy at Raviryal in Maheshwaram of Rangareddy district on Friday. The mega dairy project will be set up in 32 acres with an expenditure of Rs 246 crore and is aimed to be completed within the next two years.

Speaking on the occasion, the Animal Husbandry Minister said Vijaya Dairy products have huge demand not only in Telangana but also in Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Maharashtra. The Vijaya Dairy established around 2,000 outlets across the State and has plans to expand it by another 600 outlets. Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy said the State government was committed to the empowerment of the downtrodden by providing incentives and encouraging them to take up traditional occupations like dairy farming, aquaculture, toddy tapping and others, with an aim to strengthen the rural economy. She suggested providing subsidised loans to dairy farmers to establish their cattle farms which in turn will strengthen Vijaya Dairy.

MLCs Egge Mallesham, Surabhi Vani Devi, MLAs Jaipal Yadav, Anjaiah Yadav, ZP chairperson Teegala Anitha Reddy, Vijaya Dairy chairman Loka Bhuma Reddy, Animal Husbandry Secretary Anitha Rajendra, district collector Amoy Kumar, Fisheries Commissioner Latchiram, Vijaya Dairy managing director Srinivas Rao and other officials along with dairy farmers, participated in the ceremony.
