Four of family killed in accident in Manoharabad

The family was going on a two-wheeler when a speeding tanker knocked down the bike. Death was instant for them. The couple were identified as Anjaneyulu and Latha.

Medak: Four of a family, including two girls aged below five, were killed in a road accident at Potharam in Manoharabad mandal on Saturday evening. The family was going on a two-wheeler when a speeding tanker knocked down the bike. Death was instant for them. The victims were identified Anjaneyulu, 35, his sister-in-law Latha, 26, and her two daughters Sahasra, 5, and Shanvi, 3.

According to the police, farmers in the area had spread out paddy to dry on one side of the road at Potharam, forcing vehicles to use only the other side of the road. It is said that reckless driving of the tanker driver on one side of the road led to the accident. The driver fled the spot immediately after the accident without stopping his vehicle.

Police said Anjaneyulu was going to drop Latha and her daughters at the bus station. With the driver fleeing the scene, passersby and locals staged a protest demanding his immediate arrest. The kin of the victims did not allow the police to take the bodies to the hospital for postmortem. However, the police convinced them and assured them to take stern action against the accused. Eyewitnesses said rash and negligent driving by the driver was the reason for the mishap.
