One killed, two injured in centering structure collapse at ESIC Hospital in Hyderabad

A contractor was killed and two labourers were seriously injured when a centering structure collapsed during renovation at ESIC Medical College, Sanathnagar. Police have registered a case and launched a probe into possible negligence and safety lapses

Hyderabad: A contractor died and two labourers sustained grievous injuries after the iron centering support structures collapsed during the ongoing renovation works at the ESIC Medical College and Hospital in Sanathnagar on Monday.

The incident took place in the emergency block where modernisation activities were underway.

According to the police, the centering structure suddenly caved in, causing heavy concrete slab fragments to fall on the workers below. Bhanu Chander (25), a contractor, died and two labourers suffered injuries.

Senior hospital officials rushed to the scene and, along with staff, initiated rescue operations. The debris was cleared and the workers trapped under the collapsed material were retrieved.

On receiving information, the SR Nagar police rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection. A case has been registered, and investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collapse and identify any possible negligence.

Grief-stricken family members of the victim arrived at the hospital and broke down on seeing the body.

Police authorities said they would examine contractor safety measures and compliance as part of the probe.
