Bhongir: A fraudster posing as an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) official, tricked a government official into believing that he would be arrested for corruption and fleeced him of Rs.3.3 lakh.
Rajapet Tahsildar Damodar, who fell victim to the fraudster, had received the call from the purported ACB official on Saturday, accusing him of involvement in corrupt practices and threatening him of action. The caller then demanded a hefty sum to avoid arresting Damodar.
Fearing arrest, the Tahsildar promptly transferred Rs.3.30 lakh online to the fraudster. Later realizing he had been duped, Damodar filed a complaint with the Rachakonda Cybercrime Police.
Cybercrime sleuths have launched an inquiry into the matter. Efforts were on to track down the perpetrator and recover the funds.
