Nizamabad: Nizamabad Urban MLA Bigala Ganesh Gupta launched a free meal distribution programme for Covid patients who are home quarantined and their family members. Under this free meal programme, the Bigala Foundation has been feeding as many as 2,000 people per day, serving food at their doorsteps through home delivery.
Gupta launched the scheme since his late father Bigala Krishna Murthy always came to the rescue of the needy and often performed Annadanam. Gupta also ran a free meal distribution programme for frontline workers during last year’s lockdown period for 42 days.
Krishna Murthy passed away in November 2020, and the MLA took up the free meal distribution programme for Covid patients in his memory. Those in need of food only need to place a call on 7207392708 and 7207392709 a day in advance. Once the request is received, the free meal programme volunteers will deliver the food at the doorstep of the patient or the family that requires it.
Apart from providing food to Covid patients at their doorsteps, the foundation also distributing food to Covid patients who were admitted to the hospital and their attendants at Vinayaknagar, Varni chowrasta, Nehru Park, Khaleelwadi, Hamalwadi, and Kanteshwar areas from 12 pm to 2 pm. For hospital admitted Covid patients and their attendants, people should directly take food packets from distribution centers.
The MLA said that they launched this programme according to the desire of his father Krishna Murthy and would be continuing the food distribution till the pandemic ends.
