From film sets to fast laps: Ajith Kumar’s return to racing ends with podium finish in Dubai

Hyderabad: Ajith Kumar, the Tamil superstar, has yet again added another successful chapter to his life as he dons the avatar of professional motorsport player. Having been active in acting, passion for racing dwelled in his youth. That racing activity started when he was around 18 and began working in India on bikes; it was in 1993 that he switched over to car racing, participating globally in automotive events like the MRF Racing Series and the Formula 2 Championship.
After being down for 13 years, Ajith came back on the racetrack, securing the podium with a third place at the Dubai 24H 2025 race, with his team Ajith Kumar Racing. The team members included young drivers Mathieu Detry, Fabian Duffieux, and Cameron McLeod, and despite Ajith enduring a near-fatal crash while preparing for the race, they pulled it through.
Ajith set up his racing team in September 2024 to compete in various international racing series with the European GT4 Championship and the 24H Series as starters. The team extends its hand of support to these younger drivers, developed through racing programs like the Porsche 992 GT3 Cup. His journey through racing continues to motivae his fans, who remain enamored by the dedication Ajith shows to his acting and motorsport careers.
Besides racing, Ajith is married to Shalini, a former actress, and also enjoys collecting coins, stamps, and mini race helmets. Add to this awaiting new film ventures like “Good Bad Ugly” and “Vidae Muyarchi” to his multi-flavored public image.
