My experience in making art virtual reality, a fantastic visual experience displayed on computer screens and the bundle of emotions that came with the experience. In a flash, we moved from real to virtual world, from teaching in a room to teaching on Zoom/WebEx. We went online in the first phase of lockdown and teaching art was a daunting task especially with the limited movement and guiding mostly through WhatsApp and WebEx. Soon I learnt to embrace digital technology. But when the time came to exhibit the artworks of students, the technical competencies required posed the biggest challenge of all.
Initially, I was a little skeptical about displaying art digitally. But I was determined and started rummaging through various digital tools which suited my requirement. While figuring out how to go about hanging the paintings and creating meaningful experiences, I came across some softwares that let us create, share and explore amazing presentations. Thanks to advancing technologies. I started curating the collection for the display.
Creating a platform like this highlights students’ accomplishments. It provides them an opportunity to learn from each other and to appreciate the work of others. The virtual art gallery was designed to elegantly replicate the art gallery experience.
The experience has impacted me profoundly and has certainly proven to be enriching. This virtual gallery holds a special place in my heart as it was my first experience of coalescing art and technology into a splendid spectacle.
