Hyderabad: A 44-year-old fruit seller allegedly died by suicide after recording a selfie video accusing his wife and in-laws of mental harassment at Amberpet on Tuesday night.

The man, identified as Mohammed Sultan, a resident of Umar Nagar in Amberpet, is survived by his wife and their three children.

In the selfie video, Sultan claimed that he had been giving his wife Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 6,000 every month to deposit in a post office account opened in the name of their daughter. However, when he recently visited the post office, he allegedly found that only Rs. 6,000 had been deposited in the account.

He further alleged that he had given Rs. 3 lakh to his in-laws to purchase a plot of land in Nizamabad, but they neither bought the property nor returned the money.

Alleging that his wife and her parents had been mentally harassing him whenever he demanded an explanation about the money, Sultan said he was unable to bear the distress and had decided to end his life. He also appealed that whatever money belonged to him should be secured for his children.

The Amberpet police registered a case and launched an investigation. The allegations made in the selfie video are being verified, an official stated.
