Hyderabad: The police took Mohammed Sajid, cited as accused in connection with the collapse of an illegal under-construction building at Anjaiah Nagar in Gachibowli, into custody on Sunday.
A criminal case is registered against Sajid for allegedly constructing the unauthorised structure. The police cited another person who is a contractor as an accused in the case as well. The ill-fated structure was being constructed on a 50-square-yard plot over a nala, raising serious concerns over violations of building norms and safety regulations.
The victims were identified as Umesh Khare and Mopath, both migrant tile workers from Madhya Pradesh who were engaged in construction work at the site.
Among the injured was a 25-year-old resident of Jayadarsini Residency, an adjacent apartment complex, who was asleep when debris from the collapsed building fell on him. Two other workers also sustained injuries in the incident.
