Hyderabad: State-run tertiary teaching hospital Gandhi Medical College has been chosen by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) as Regional Clinical Trial Unit (RCTU) and be a part of the pan-India network of institutes in clinical research, which will be known as Indian Clinical Trial and Education Network (INTENT).

The RCTU status for Gandhi Hospital means the teaching college will be part of the clinical trials being taken up across India by ICMR and will also be responsible for daily functioning and monitoring of the clinical trials. The Gandhi Hospital has also been identified as Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU), Model Rural Health Research Unit (MRHRU), which will act as a Regional Clinical Trial Unit (RCTU).

The network of clinical trials will work on a hub and spoke model with a coordinating centre located at ICMR-Department of Health Research (DHR), New Delhi. The hubs are distributed over six regions of the country including North, South, East, West, Central and North-East and they will function as nodal points for RCTUs like Gandhi Hospital in the respective local regions.
