Ganesh idol immersion continues as Hyderabad sees heavy crowds and traffic

Ganesh idol immersion continued late into Sunday night as Hyderabad witnessed large crowds, heavy traffic and elaborate arrangements around the lake. More than a lakh devotees visited the Khairatabad pandal, while swimmers, lifeguards and disaster response teams remained deployed.

Hyderabad: Over the weekend, the ongoing Ganesh Chaturthi festivities at Hussain Sagar transformed into a sprawling canvas of colour and devotion as hundreds of idols arrived for immersion.

From small household idols carried carefully on two-wheelers to magnificent pandal deities arriving on heavily decorated trucks, the range of arrivals highlighted a city coming together in celebration.

Starting Saturday, the idol immersion continued late into Sunday night with the city administration making arrangements at the lake, its surroundings and baby ponds.

Authorities fortified the lake’s shoreline and deployed expert swimmers and disaster response teams in high-density zones to ensure safety amid swelling crowds during the immersion process.

Lifesavers maintained vigil along the water’s edge, supported by heavy cranes and multi-tier barricades, to prevent untoward incidents.

Traffic built up at Khairatabad, NTR Marg, People’s Plaza, Secretariat and Tank Bund as vehicles and trucks carrying Ganesh idols arrived.

Meanwhile, more than a lakh devotees visited Khairatabad pandal between 10 am and 9 pm on Sunday, with footfall increasing steadily through the day.
