Hyderabad: Balapur Ganesh begins 19-km Shobha Yatra to Hussain Sagar

Balapur Ganesh commenced its nearly 19-km Shobha Yatra from Balapur to Hussain Sagar on Friday. The procession will pass through several parts of the Old City amid heavy security, with the idol expected to reach Charminar in the evening before immersion.

Hyderabad: Following laddu prasadam auction, Balapur Ganesh commenced its Shobha Yatra, covering nearly 19 kilometres from Balapur to Hussian Sagar where the idol will be immersed on Friday.

Amidst heavy security arrangements, including the deployment of a large number of police personnel, the Balapur Ganesh idol will traverse the Old City, covering areas – Bakras, Chandrayangutta, Falaknuma, Shailabanda, Charminar, Afzal Gunj, MJ Market, Abids, Liberty X Roads and Tank Bund. The idol is expected to reach Charminar in the evening, with the immersion likely to take place in the night.

Earlier in the day, Balapur Ganesh Utsav Samithi, the organisers of Balapur Ganesh, offered morning pooja before commencement of Shobha Yatra. The Balapur lanes reverberated with bhajans as the Ganesh idol proceeded amidst tight police cover. A large number of people thronged to bid adieu to Balapur Ganesh, who is also called as ‘Adi Vinayaka’.

Initially, a technical glitch was encountered while shifting the Balapur Ganesh idol onto the vehicle using a crane. This delayed the procession in the local area and the laddu auction.
