Hyderabad: The Ganesh immersion procession from the Old City started a bit late, with the main procession crossing Charminar at 2 pm.
Though the police had appealed to the pandal organisers to start early so that they could return home quickly, not many paid heed to the advice. The idols were stationed in the colonies till 4.30 pm.
The Balapur Ganesh crossed Charminar around 3 pm, escorted by a huge police contingent as it traversed through the old city areas of Chandrayangutta, Falaknuma, Aliabad, Syed Ali Chabutra, Shahalibanda and Charminar.
After 6 pm, the police swung into action and made the truck drivers make two rows on the main road so that the procession moved quickly. The police were apprehensive as the procession got delayed by several hours. Senior police officials visited the old city and reviewed the bandobast for the procession.
The city police had deployed contingents of Rapid Action Force at sensitive areas such as Lal Darwaza, Shahalibanda, Charminar, Gulzar Houz, Santoshnagar, Madannapet and Saidabad.
A few idols from the Chandrayangutta side headed to Srisailam reservoir, while those from Santoshnagar preferred to immerse the idols at Saroornagar tank.
