After trying his hand at writing dialogues for movies like ‘Lovely’, ‘Police Police’, ‘Sarada’ (shelved) and ‘Solo Brathuke So Better’, journalist-turned-film writer Ganesh Kumar got a break as a full-fledged script, dialogue writer with ‘Varudu Kavalenu’.
Directed by Lakshmi Sowjanya, ‘Varudu Kavalenu’ starring Ritu Varma and Naga Shaurya in the lead, has collected Rs 2.78 crore at the box office in both Telugu States in just four days of its release, apart from the worldwide collections and pre-release business.
“In the story, I liked the fact that the girl falls in love with the guy twice and felt that the film had depth, which offered enough scope for me as a dialogue writer. This is a film where the characters have set boundaries. Each of them has a secret, but they wouldn’t open up. For some scenes like the one involving Anand, the interval conflict, the climax and Murali Sharma’s confrontation with actor Nadhiya, I revised my version once again a day before the shoot to enhance the impact,” the film writer says.
Ganesh says he didn’t approach the script like a journalist. “My sole intention was to entertain audiences. At the same time, I didn’t want the critics to write off the film. This isn’t any path-breaking story and the film is driven by the entertainment quotient; I wrote it with the hope that all kinds of audiences would identify with the treatment.”

Ganesh was slightly apprehensive about the story, and writing funny characters like that of Himaja, Vennela Kishore, Pammi Sai, Praveen, Sathya and Saptagiri without deviating from the core plot was a true challenge. “This film would have been easier to write if the makers had taken a regular commercial approach but they truly believed in the story and wanted to deal with it sensitively,” he says.
