Gang held for drug peddling in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Special Operations Team along with the Vanasthalipuram police on Friday busted an interstate drug racket and arrested 10 persons, who were allegedly transporting marijuana from Narsipatnam in Andhra Pradesh to Mumbai via Hyderabad. Police seized 240 kg of marijuana, Rs.8 lakh, a truck and a car, all together worth Rs.90 lakh.
The arrested persons were Shivan Krishnan (47), drug supplier and driver from Odisha and native of Kerala, A.Upender (46) a mediator from New Bowenpally, Santosh Lalji Baranwal (44), a receiver from Mumbai, Tejas Kumar (36) from Mumbai, Mohd.Shameer (35) and Hareesh Pookutty (31), both truck drivers from Kerala, Sumesh (30), a cleaner from Kerala, Shaik Jilani (25) from Narsipatnam, A.Prakash (23) and N.Paul Daniel (24) from AP. The main drug supplier, Subba Rao (32) from Odisha, is absconding.
Shivan Krishnan migrated to Odisha in search of work two years ago and worked as helper at various drug suppliers, including with Subba Rao, in packing and transportation of marijuana from agency areas to local destinations. Recently, he started his own business along with Shaik Jilani, Prakash and Daniel.
“He contacted Upender and sought his help in transporting drug to sell it to Santosh and Tejas Kumar from Mumbai,” Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said.
Shivan Krishnan, along with his associates procured 240 kg of marijuana from Subba Rao, packed into 110 packets and hid at a secret location in Narsipatnam. He then came into contact with Shameer, Hareesh and Sumesh, who worked on trucks plying between Kerala, AP, Telangana and Maharashtra.
“He offered them Rs.50,000 for the task. They hid the marijuana amidst the load headed to a chemical company in Mumbai,” Bhagwat said.
On being informed by Upender, Lalji and Tejas Kumar came to Hyderabad in a minivan, along with Rs.8 lakh. They were were waiting at Auto Nagar in Vanasthalipuram in the wee hours when they were nabbed.
