Gangaputra Sangham condemn Talasani’s remarks
Minister reportedly said that the Mudiraj community holds the primary rights on fishing and Gangaputra Sangham members felt that the statement was against the interests of fishermen community
Khammam: The members of Khammam Zilla Gangaputra Sangham on Saturday took strong exception to the alleged remarks of Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav who reportedly said that the Mudiraj community holds the primary rights on fishing.
They felt that the statement was against the interests of fishermen community and demanded that the Minister withdraw his remarks. In a statement, the Sangham district general secretary D Manga Rao, its State joint secretary J Shankaraiah and others have maintained that the exclusive rights to fishing belongs to the Gangaputra (fishermen) community.
They claimed that the Mudiraj community has learnt fishing techniques from Gangaputra community and hence, cannot claim the fishing rights over the Gangaputra community. They pointed out that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao himself made a statement in the State Legislative Assembly upholding the rights of the Gangaputra community over the fishing profession.
