Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar came down heavily on BJP leader Eatala Rajender for neglecting Huzurabad constituency, which he had won on a TRS ticket.
Though the State government sanctioned interest free loans and other welfare schemes for women self-help groups in all constituencies of the State, local groups faced hardships since the former MLA failed to bring local problems to the notice of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
“Not only did Rajender neglect his constituency, he also used political power to amass wealth and properties,” Kamalakar said, participating in a women SHG meeting in Huzurabad.
Promising to construct a Mahila Samakya Bhavan, the Minister announced release of Rs 50 lakh within two days for construction of the bhavan. He also promised to lay the foundation stone after identifying suitable land.
Kamalakar, who handed over cheques totalling Rs 95 lakh to 19 women groups, promised to release the pending Rs 83 lakh loan amount to women’s groups. He immediately instructed officials participating in the meeting to take steps to release the amount as early as possible.
“Earlier, the poor used to borrow money to fulfill small desires such as purchasing new clothes and other things for their children. Unable to pay interest on principal amounts, they used to slip into debts. The situation, however, changed after State formation. The Chief Minister introduced a number of schemes for women’s empowerment. Moreover, the benefits of all government schemes were provided to women. As a result, the financial status of women has been strengthened, he said, adding that this was possible only because of Chandrashekhar Rao.
Stating that Telangana was the only State providing Rs 10 lakh interest free loans to each SHG group, the Minister said Kalyanalaxmi and Shaadi Mubharak schemes were aimed at helping parents from poorer sections perform the marriages of their daughters.
Kamalakar appealed to the women folk to teach a befitting lesson to the leader (Rajender), who termed government welfare schemes as peanuts.
In united Andhra Pradesh, AP leaders had not bothered about Telangana farmers even though MLAs from the region staged protest along with dried paddy and burnt motors in the assembly.
However, the situation has changed after the formation of Telangana. Besides 24 hours current supply, Kaleshwaram water, Rythu Bandhu have been provided to protect the interests of farmers. No state in the country was implementing such kinds of schemes, he opined.
Former Minister and MLA Basawaraju Saraiah and others participated in the meeting.
