Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development department is intensifying its efforts in geo-tagging the properties across all the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the State and aims to complete the task by December this year.
The department had conducted a pilot project in 2018 in 72 ULBs. The exercise yielded good results as Rs 30 crore revenue was generated through un-assessed and under assessed properties.
Buoyed with the pilot project results, in 2019, the department launched a massive exercise of geo-tagging all the 20.80 lakh properties across the State. Of these, nearly 12.5 lakh properties, including 31,400 properties, have been tagged so far.
However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the exercise got delayed. Last year, as lockdown was imposed due to covid pandemic, all the plans went haywire. The staff was occupied with other works, said an official from the department.
This apart, there were heavy rains and floods in few areas of the State this year and staff members were deployed in different rescue and rehabilitation activities. All these factors affected the geo-tagging exercise. However, all efforts were being made to complete the task by December this year, the official said.
As part of this exercise, the department has roped in National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) to develop a special mobile application ‘Bhuvan’ to geo-tag properties, facilitating availability of maps and images of the properties.
Among all the ULBs, Parigi is leading the chart with 99.51 per cent completion of geo-tagging of properties, followed by Bellampally and Ramagundam, which have completed 98.99 per cent and 98.92 per cent geo-tagging respectively. Cheriyal, Nakrekal, Miryalaguda and Alampur ULBs are among the municipalities, which have completed only single digit percentage tagging so far.
