Hyderabad: Finance Minister T Harish Rao slammed the union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy accusing him of lack of any moral right to speak about Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and Telangana martyrs. Harish Rao reminded Kishan Reddy that he became a union Minister only due to Telangana which was created due to the sacrifices of Telangana people, but he had utterly failed to speak out for the development of the State.

Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, Harish Rao ridiculed Kishan Reddy’s challenge to the Chief Minister for a debate at Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial. He stated that any TRS leader would suffice to give a befitting answer to Kishan Reddy. But he stated that the union Minister had no moral right to visit the Martyrs’ Memorial, as the latter had shied away from resigning to his MLA post in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, along with other Telangana MLAs.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi found fault with the formation of Telangana and union Home Minister Amit Shah termed it as a black day, hurting the self-respect and sentiments of people of Telangana. But Kishan Reddy did not speak out and instead, thumped on the benches in the Parliament. However, he found the remarks of Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao to be insulting because the latter raised objections over the Centre’s injustice to Telangana,” he argued.

The Finance Minister challenged Kishan Reddy to bring national project status to any project in Telangana to prove his mettle. He justified the Chief Minister’s remarks against the Centre, terming it as Telangana people’s language. “The Chief Minister had only question whey the Centre reduced Rs 65,000 crore to the Food Corporation of India and Rs 25,000 crore to MGNREGS in the union Budget 2022-23. He demanded for increasing reservations for SCs, STs and minorities,” he said. The Minister stated that Chandrashekhar Rao’s language was far better than the hate speech of the BJP leaders meant to divide people based on religion.

Harish Rao ridiculed the argument that river-linking would improve irrigation facilities and wondered how it would benefit the people of Telangana if water from the Godavari River are taken to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. “If there is enough surplus water in Godavari River, then the Centre must give priority to fulfil requirements of Telangana by giving permissions to the proposed projects,” he demanded. He questioned whether Kishan Reddy was working for benefit of Telangana or other States.

He stated that the BJP Telangana leaders were of no use to the State and had repeatedly failed to protect the interests of the State. He pointed out that despite having four MPs including a union Minister, no funds were given to relief measures during the Hyderabad floods. “The BJP MPs could not get a new project or educational institutions. They could not even make the Centre deliver its promises as well as pending funds. Kishan Reddy must answer our questions, before questioning us,” he said.

He added that while the State government spent Rs 364 crore for the Sammakka Saralamm Jatara in the last four years, the Centre allocated a meagre Rs 2.5 crore. He reminded that Kishan Reddy as a union Minister for Tourism and Culture could have sanctioned more funds for the largest tribal festival in Asia.
