Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC), representing the Hyderabad Metropolitan Area (HMA), renewed their sister-city partnership with Miyoshi City in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, by signing a declaration on Tuesday.
Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary for Metropolitan Area and Urban Development and Special Officer for GHMC, CMC and MMC, and Miyoshi Mayor Satoshi Fukuoka signed the declaration at the GHMC head office on Tank Bund. Established on July 27, 2006, the partnership has completed two decades.
Under the declaration, HMA and Miyoshi will cooperate in two priority areas: skill mobility, and tourism, culture and sports. The two sides will develop projects through consultations and implement them by mutual agreement, according to a press statement.
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan, CMC Commissioner Srijana, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vinay Krishna Reddy and GHMC Additional Commissioner for Finance Radhika Gupta attended the signing.
Representatives of the Hiroshima Prefectural Government, including Vice-Governor Toru Youhimatsu, Kazuo Ichikawa, Hiroyoshi Funaishi and Yoshihiro Harazono, were also present.
Both sides said the partnership would support industrial, economic, educational and cultural growth while deepening understanding between the people of HMA and Miyoshi, as well as between India and Japan.
GHMC, CMC and MMC will review the priority areas and activities every five years. Any changes will be agreed upon in writing through an addendum. The 2006 declaration will remain in force, but the new declaration will take precedence wherever the two differ.
