Hyderabad: As part of the Bathukamma saree distribution initiative, the GHMC distributed over 4 lakh sarees to eligible beneficiaries across the city on Tuesday in the presence of Ministers, MPs, MLAs and other public representatives.
This year, over 8.9 lakh Bathukamma sarees of 19 colours and 17 designs are being distributed from 838 distribution centres ahead of the floral festival that commences on Wednesday.
At present, the sarees are stocked in 17 godowns located in different parts of the city and staffers have also been appointed for each warehouse. As per norms, all women above 18 years having white ration cards shall be provided with Bathukamma sarees.
The beneficiaries have to produce their white card number slip and the Aadhaar card as ID proof at the collection centres. To ensure the distribution process was held without hurdles, committees consisting of bill collectors, women organisations and dealers of the fair price shops have been constituted. “Training and orientation programme was held for committee members,” said a GHMC official.
