Hyderabad: Excavation works proposed by the GHMC for construction of a steel flyover and an underpass in the vicinity of KBR Park are expected to disrupt traffic movement.

These works were proposed ahead of the GHMC polls under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) project on Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills, where hundreds of vehicles crisscross every day.

Presently, machinery has been deployed to carry out excavation works in Banjara Hills (near Park Hayat) and barricades have been placed on both sides of the key stretch. As a result, the stretch has been narrowed down.

A GHMC senior engineering official told ‘Telangana Today’ that soil testing was recently completed on this stretch. “As per the detailed project report, civil works will start for the steel flyover and underpass at Jubilee Hills check post, KBR Park entrance, and Mugdha Junction. As part of these works, the agency will start earth excavation works, and then pillar works at Road No 2, Banjara Hills, and Jubilee Hills,” the official said.

Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills areas figure among city’s busiest commercial zones with luxurious star hotels, reputed apparel showrooms, leading medical and healthcare facilities, a cinema hall and a preview theatre, and vehicle showrooms.

The KBR surrounding areas are usually packed with commuter movement during peak hours between 9 am and 12 pm, and then 4 pm and 9 pm. With the execution of civil works, hundreds of commuters are likely to face congestion and delays in the surrounding stretches.

Commuters are wary of traffic movement ending up in chaos with gridlocks once the works pick up pace. On their part, the traffic police have already issued a traffic advisory urging commuters to use alternative roads.
