Hyderabad: The GHMC Ordinary Council meeting, chaired by Hyderabad Mayor Gadwala Vijayalakshmi on Wednesday, held detailed discussions on monsoon preparedness and other basic amenities that were raised by corporators.

During the course of the meeting, heated arguments took place between BRS and BJP corporators when Samala Hema, BRS corporator from Sitaphalmandi blamed the Central government’s intelligence failure for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The BJP corporators swiftly reacted and demanded an apology from the BRS corporator for blaming the Centre.

The BRS corporators also raised the issue of arresting Baba Fasiuddin (Congress) of Borabanda, for his alleged involvement in a suicide. They raised slogans and held placards demanding that Fasiuddin be arrested.

Mayor Gadwala Vijayalakshmi intervened and managed to pacify angry corporators. She said that an FIR had been registered and the case is under investigation. “Law will take its own course and if BRS corporators have any additional evidence related to this issue, they can hand it over to the investigating authorities,” she said.

Other issues scheduled for discussion in the Council include: functioning of Hydraa, street lights, issuance of birth and death certificates, rain water harvesting pits constructed by GHMC, RTC bus stops restoration, lack of basic infrastructure in graveyards, and painting and beautification works undertaken on flyovers across the city.
