GHMC opts e-coupons for vaccine drive
GHMC staffers will go around the grocery shops, saloons, markets – vegetables, fruits and meat as well as other public places to identify the beneficiaries and enrol them in the State government vaccine portal
Hyderabad: To ensure only those falling under the high-risk category are administered the free vaccine, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) decided to stop the distribution of physical coupons from Wednesday and issue e-coupons only.
The GHMC staffers will go around the grocery shops, saloons, markets – vegetables, fruits and meat as well as other public places to identify the beneficiaries and enrol them in the State government vaccine portal. Post enrollment, the beneficiaries will receive text messages which will serve as e-coupons. Only those with an e-coupon will be allowed to enter the vaccination centres set up by the GHMC. Earlier the civic body officials were distributing physical coupons by visiting stalls.
As of date, e-coupons are being issued in GHMC Serilingampally circle and parts of Khairatabad zone and from Wednesday the strategy will be extended to all the 30 GHMC circles. GHMC Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar through a video conference on Tuesday instructed the officials to switch to e-coupons.
People working in rythu bazars, grocery shops, wine shops, street vendors, salon shops, laundry service, pan shops and markets have been categorised as high-risk groups and are eligible for free vaccines under the massive vaccination drive taken up in GHMC limits.
Meanwhile, the massive vaccination drive was held successfully across the city for the fifth consecutive day with 27,117 persons receiving the vaccine on Tuesday. The civic body surveyed 86,726 households in the GHMC as a part of the ongoing door-to-door fever survey. Field-level workers from the GHMC and the Health Department who surveyed the households also referred about 17,151 persons to Basthi Dawakhanas and Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) for undergoing Covid tests.
