Hyderabad: Complaints of water-logging, power outage, trees and electricity poles collapsing and others poured in from different parts of the city from Tuesday through the day and continued on Wednesday as well.

Till 7 pm on Wednesday, over 1,400 complaints were lodged from residents in different areas. Among the complaints, 643 pertained to water overflow, trees collapses, lake bed or pond overflow etc.

Mayor Bonthu Rammohan along with Animal Husbandry Minister T Srinivas Yadav inspected the Hussain Sagar and directed officials to shift residents in low-lying areas to safe places. The Mayor said since last evening over 28 cm rainfall was recorded in several areas across the city.

All rescue and rehabilitation works were being taken up in coordination with police, irrigation and other line departments, he said. Since a holiday has been declared in GHMC area, the Mayor appealed to residents not to venture out unless for an emergency.

Meanwhile, the road at Moosapet Metro station caved in due to flooding from IDL Cheruvu, exposing the foundation of the pillars. Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited Managing Director NVS Reddy said the road might have caved in due to failure of some underground drain pipes.

HRDCL engineers are attending to it, he said and added that the Metro pillars and structures were ‘absolutely safe’ and that there was nothing to worry.
