Hyderabad: Towards improving the sanitation initiatives in the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has set up up 72 mobile Secondary Collection and Transfer Points (SC&TP) and 24 static SC&TP.
These secondary collection and transfer points are containerised vehicles, i.e, hermetically sealed ones coupled with hook loader vehicles, while the static ones are kept at dedicated land parcels spread over 100 square metres or more.
Currently, the waste collected from households, roads and other public places is shifted to transfer stations before it is sent to Jawahar Nagar dump yard for recycling. With these new facilities, all the municipal solid waste generated is no longer dumped in the existing transfer stations and instead, is being transported to the SC&TP and from there it is being sent to Jawahar Nagar for recycling.
The SC&TP are designed in such a way that the Swachh Auto Tippers can directly tip into these containerised vehicles emptying the garbage. These measures taken up to improve the cleanliness in the city will decrease the load on the existing transfer stations and Swachh Auto Tippers, said a GHMC official.
“For instance, the garbage collected from Vijay Nagar Colony, Mehdipatnam is no longer being transported to the Ziaguda dump yard, instead, it is being tipped into the mobile SC&TP and from there it is being directly transported to Jawahar Nagar dump yard,” he said.
“The new SC&TPs and containerised vehicles will address the issues like spillages on the roads, hazards caused due to garbage being transported in open vehicles, soil contamination, garbage being scattered near transfer stations and leachate,” said GHMC in a press release.
