Hyderabad waste-to-energy model reflects KCR government’s vision: KTR

BRS working president KT Rama Rao highlighted that Hyderabad’s Waste-to-Energy model, recognised in NCAP 2026, reflects the K. Chandrashekhar Rao government’s vision. The model processes 3,200 tonnes of waste daily across three plants with a combined capacity of 62.5 MW, including South India’s first plant at Jawaharnagar.

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the Hyderabad Waste-to-Energy model, featured in the Compendium of Best Practices under NCAP 2026, was a testament to the vision of the K Chandrashekhar Rao government.

Welcoming the recognition, Rama Rao said the initiative demonstrated an integrated approach to municipal solid waste management, covering source segregation, collection, transportation, transfer stations, waste-to-energy facilities and power generation.

He said the model had a combined capacity of 62.5 MW across three waste-to-energy plants and processed around 3,200 tonnes per day (TPD) of segregated combustible waste.

During the previous BRS rule, GHMC installed three waste-to-energy plants in Hyderabad in 2020 including one in Jawahar Nagar which was the first in South India.
