GHMC takes up IEC activities to check vector borne diseases

Hyderabad: To safeguard people against vector borne diseases, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken up Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities. Under the awareness campaign, slums are being accorded priority.
On Wednesday, people living in the slum areas falling in Banjara Hills, Jambagh, Alwal and Jubilee Hills ward were made aware about preventive measures against dengue and malaria.
While interacting with people, officials emphasised on the need to empty stagnant water regularly in and around their houses.
The IEC programme was taken up as a part of GHMC’s 100 day special drive to reduce mosquito population.
Spraying pyrethrum in houses where dengue cases were reported, treating the breeding places with larvicides, spraying of mosquito larvicidal oil in Musi and releasing Gambusia fishes in a water body located in Begumpet were the activities taken up on Wednesday.
In the water body located near Taj Banjara, Road number 1 Banjara Hills, chemicals were sprayed using a drone. Pyrosine Oil was also sprayed in empty plots filled with water and also into the drains running through residential localities.
