Since Tuesday evening, six boat teams were deployed on the field and rescue operations launched as and when a request was made. All the boat teams were being continuously supervised by officials on the field to ensure as many people possible were relocated safely, EVDM Director Viswajit Kampati said.

As many as 72 dewatering teams are also pressed into action to clear water stagnation from apartment cellars and other places, where people were stuck without water, food and electricity.

“Our teams have so far cleared 202 cellars and helped electricity department personnel in restoring power in those apartments,” said Kampati. For dewatering, priority is being given to hospitals and electricity substations. Over 105 dewatering pumps have been put to use for the purpose. Due to the heavy rains and winds, many trees have collapsed and till date, 19 DRF teams have cleared 390 fallen trees. This apart, 15 green waste trucks were on the job to remove trees that were uprooted.

“Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel for the next two days and are requested to stay vigilant,” Kampati said, and appealed to the public to call 040-29555500 for any assistance from DRF teams.
