Hyderabad: A total of 22 puppies were adopted by animal lovers at the second edition of the GHMC’s Indie Puppy Adoption Mela which was held at KBR Park on Sunday.
The event, inaugurated by GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan, received enthusiastic participation from animal lovers. The mela sought to encourage citizens to adopt desi puppies as cherished family members rather than mere pets.
A total of 35 dewormed, vaccinated indie puppies were presented of which 22 puppies found loving homes at today’s event, the GHMC said in a press release. Karnan personally handed over the first puppy to Chinkakunta Raju, a resident of Shaikpet who came forward for adoption.
The GHMC Commissioner highlighted the virtues of indigenous dogs describing them as resilient, intelligent, low-maintenance, and deeply loyal. Following the positive response, the Commissioner announced that adoption puppy melas would be conducted in all GHMC zonal circles to promote adoption.
The Indie Puppy Mela aims not only to facilitate adoptions but also to nurture compassion, reduce street dog populations, and restore dignity to lives often overlooked.
