Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s Covid-19 vaccination drive picked up pace on Tuesday with special teams fanning out across the city to cover those yet to receive the jab.
The drive aims to ensure free vaccination of all eligible persons in the city, including in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits and the jurisdiction of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) as well.
Having commenced on Monday, the drive on the second day on Tuesday was successful in reaching out to more beneficiaries, officials involved with the exercise said. On the first day of the drive, a total of 26,892 persons received the Covid-19 vaccine. Officials tabulating details for Tuesday said the number of beneficiaries covered had surpassed Monday’s numbers.
As part of the initiative, the first dose as well as the second dose of the Covid vaccine was being made available by the authorities. A total of 150 mobile vaccination teams were pressed into service in GHMC limits and 25 teams were deployed in the Secunderabad Cantonment Board jurisdiction.
These teams went around the city and administered the free jab with each team visiting multiple colonies in each ward. Several elected representatives including MLAs and MLCs, inspected the vaccination drive in the areas falling under their jurisdiction and encouraged people to get vaccinated.
On Tuesday, Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi also visited the vaccination centres in Mehdipatnam and Banjara Hills ward. The colonies that have been fully vaccinated were awarded with a certificate too and a banner saying ‘We are 100 % vaccinated’ was set up. A sticker was also pasted on the walls of the houses where all the eligible members were vaccinated.
